Myth 01“Let it dry out and scab. That is how it heals.”Tap for the truth
False

Dry healing invites thick scabs, and thick scabs can take ink with them when they lift. Skin heals faster when it is kept lightly moist.

Thin layers of LOCK through healing, just enough for a faint sheen.

Myth 02“Petroleum jelly is the best aftercare.”Tap for the truth
Not the best

It is not dangerous, but a heavy layer holds a weeping tattoo too wet. Dermatology bodies prefer a light, non-petroleum aftercare on new tattoos.

A light aftercare in thin layers. LOCK is petrolatum-free.

Myth 03“Sunscreen is only for summer.”Tap for the truth
False

UV reaches skin on cloudy days and in winter, and its effect on a tattoo adds up year after year.

Once healed, protect exposed tattoos every day, all year, with SHIELD.

Myth 04“Once it is healed, the care is over.”Tap for the truth
False

Healing is only the first chapter. Ink keeps fading slowly for life, and sun is the biggest cause you can control.

Daily protection, and a refresh when ink starts to look dull.

Myth 05“Colour fades faster than black.”Tap for the truth
Mostly true

Black and dark pigments are the most stable. Yellow, white, orange and some reds fade fastest. Sun, placement and care matter for every colour.

Protect every colour daily. When it looks dull, LUME refreshes the skin over it.

Myth 06“A drink beforehand helps with the pain.”Tap for the truth
False

Alcohol does not numb the needle. It increases bleeding during the appointment, makes healing harder and reputable studios will turn you away.

Arrive rested, hydrated and fed. Preparation helps. A pint does not.

Myth 07“Itching means it is infected.”Tap for the truth
False

Itch in weeks 1 to 3 is a normal part of healing. The warning signs are spreading redness, pus, rising pain and fever.

Tap, do not scratch, and keep it lightly moisturised.

Myth 08“A milky, cloudy tattoo means the ink has failed.”Tap for the truth
False

That is new skin settling over the ink, usually around weeks 2 to 6. It clears on its own.

Keep going with your aftercare and give it time.

Myth 09“Swimming is fine with a fresh tattoo.”Tap for the truth
False

Pools, spas, lakes and the sea expose a healing tattoo to bacteria and chemicals while the skin is still closing.

Wait until your tattoo has fully healed before you swim. Short showers are fine.

Myth 10“Any skincare is fine on a tattoo.”Tap for the truth
False

Strong acids, retinoids and scrubs can irritate tattooed skin, and heavy creams sit poorly on healing skin.
