Inspector's report · 2026

He will tell you the style is not traditional Japanese. It is Shige style.

The subjects are the classical canon, deities, dragons, peonies and waves, but the composition is modern, the shading dense and painterly, the colour vivid to the point of luminescence, and the whole built to the contours of the body so that sleeves, back and chest read as one object. A tattoo, in his words, is not just a flat piece of art.

He works from Yellow Blaze in Yokohama, where the wait to be tattooed is currently 2 to 3 years and a place on the list is made in person. The inspectors assessed the large-scale work, where sleeves, back and chest must read as a single object, and found nothing to match it.

Inspector's note

The most complete large-scale Japanese work being produced anywhere, by the artist who redefined what the genre could look like.
